If you know who that is, you probably already know where I’m going with this. If you don’t, oh boy am I overjoyed to be the person to introduce you to her.
Snapcube, better known as Penny Parker, is a YouTuber/Streamer that has been posting publicly for just over 10 years. I haven’t known her for that amount of time, but what put her on my radar was a video she posted back in 2018 called “Sonic Adventure 2 (Hero Story) Real-Time Fandub Games”. This absolutely EXPLODED her channel and pretty much became an over-night hit.
A month later the second part of the Sonic Adventure dub was released and this was the video that really took off.
Then came more videos, and now there is a whole discography of Sonic the Hedgehog based Real-Time Fandubs, as well as other franchises such as Kingdom Hearts, Resident Evil, and even Sly Cooper.
“I’ve come to make an announcement.”
If you’ve ever seen or read the now copypasta of Dr. Eggman ‘pissing on the moon’, that’s where it came from. Entirely adlibbed by a beautiful man called Alfred, who pretty much carried the entire video. If you’re going to know anything at all about Snapcube RTFB, it would be an Alfred Eggman quote.
Others I have found going particularly viral, especially on TikTok, are
- “...I miss my wife, Tails”
- “I’M BACK IN THE FUCKING BUILDING AGAIN?!”
- “I’m going to kill you… And then kill you again.”
‘I miss my wife, Tails’ has lots of uses for me, especially for expressing exasperation at any mild inconvenience. It’s even funnier if said when whatever you’re trying to do just keeps going wrong, which pays a certain homage to where the quote even came from. Eggman, constantly being barraged by an ever-determined Tails the Fox, exploding over and over again before letting out a deep sigh into a sudden silence and quietly proclaiming
Beautiful.
The entire Sonic-based series is full of similar quips, all hilarious in their own right and easily quotable. Another community favourite is from the Sonic '06 dub where the adlibbed 'incel' Mephilis bitches about the friend zone at his 'tilted towers'. I recognise that sentence sounds absolutely nonsensical but that's entirely the fun of it.
If you're intrigued, I definitely recommend at least watching the very first video in the series. I'm sure the humour in it isn't for everyone, but I can honestly say I have cried laughing at these videos more than once.
