Where the hell have you been, Loca?

Where haven’t I been is a better question.

If you’ve passed by my corner of the internet in the last month, you may know that my car decided to take matters into its own hands and remove itself from this planet. Well, I can officially say that that car has been written off and I now have a better understanding of what actually happened.

The immobiliser locked up which caused the brakes to get confused (apparently; I’ll be honest I know nothing about how cars work, so I’m very much taking this information at face-value), I got stuck in a left-hand turn which caused me to drive directly into a skip, which bumped me back into the road before I then resumed turning left and had to rake my handbrake up to stop. All very scary. Would not recommend the experience to anyone else.

The main thing is that no one got hurt, unless we are counting my ego, then yes someone got very hurt.

I have been paid out by my insurance, following them clearing my finance, and purchased a new car yesterday which I am due to collect on Friday. Huzzah.

I have known no larger source of agony than owning a car.

The week following the accident, I flew out to Portugal with my partner for our anniversary. It was a 4 day stay at a spa hotel, complete with a sea view balcony and a very generous breakfast buffet. We were very grateful for the experience, as it was gifted to us by my mother who originally booked it for herself but could not go in the end. I’ll admit that it was a bit tainted due to the fact that all the car nonsense hadn’t been resolved prior to us flying out there, but we both relaxed as much as we could.

Honestly, it was just nice not to be responsible for anything for a few days.

I will be writing about my trip to Portugal shortly. We did not get to see much of the country nor the town we were staying in, but it’s such a beautiful place that I would be remiss if I did not talk about it.

So now we are down to a single car. Not a big deal for most people but when you live in rural England where the buses come by once every election cycle, it becomes a big deal.

Especially when said single car goes in for its MOT and fails :’)

We have this car back now, thank god, but lord is it a pain in the ass to try and get anywhere when your vehicle is being held hostage.

Even getting to the garage was a nightmare. Just as we set off there was a massive accident on the motorway involving 15 vehicles. I’m surprised we weren’t sat at a standstill for longer than we were, as in the grand scheme of things clearing that amount of mess up in 2 hours is pretty impressive (as much as the locals like to complain).

I will say though, if you are ever planning to travel on the M5? Be careful. It is a nightmare of a road and we have accidents all the time. It’s even worse during the summer.

I digress…

We were late to said MOT but as we made them well aware of the fact they managed to find a space for us later in the afternoon. Which was great! But also hellscape nightmare zone times because they couldn’t do work on the car until the following day. Which meant we needed rescuing. Twice.

The fact that today is Mother’s Day isn’t lost on me and if mine wasn’t here to help us out we would be royally fucked. I owe her BIG TIME.

Anyway, besides the absolute shit-show I have been forced to perform in, there are some new and exciting things to look forward to!

At the end of the day, things could always be a lot worse, so I am doing my best to keep positive. I am, admittedly, extremely exhausted and desperate for the universe to just chill out for a minute.

Hopefully that sticks.
